Please pick up after your astronaut!

pbot | June 17, 2009 | 9:12 am

Funny post on the Boing Boing site about human poop on the moon.

When Neil Armstrong first took that one small step onto the moon, he left behind more than just a footprint. Among the many items still sitting in the Bay of Tranquility are;

Neil Armstrong’s boots, a gold replica of an olive branch, tongs, four armrests, urine collection assemblies, a hammer, an insulating blanket, and… four defecation collection devices. Yes, Neil Armstrong’s poop is moldering on the moon.

Now is that a crappy story or what! Boom boom.

SF hipsters are on the move!

pbot | May 28, 2009 | 11:32 am

puch maxi

The SF hipsters have a new hip accessory to add to their ironic colored Oakley Frogskins, checked flannel shirts and tight jeans. They have moved on from fixies (so cliched now!) to  70’s Puch mopeds.

It’s ok tho… they still have pedals!

Burnout… and not the XBox type.

pbot | May 27, 2009 | 9:47 am

Found this great article over at A List Apart… it’s like they violated my brain and dumped everything into an article.

A few points in the article really summed me up:

  • You are no longer emotionally invested in your job or the work you’re doing.
  • There is a clear disconnect between your personal values and what is expected of you.
  • A significant amount of your day is focused on tasks that are not fulfilling on a personal or emotional level.

Now I just need to work on rectifying the situation i’ve sailed into. That’s going to be the hardest part due to my working situation in the USA, but it’s not unachievable. I just need to “change my situation”.

PERM Fail

pbot | March 26, 2009 | 7:38 pm

I’m currently in the US on a L1B working visa which gives me 5 years total to work here. It’s been almost three years already (hard to believe) and time is slowly running out.

I had been given the a-ok from work to have their lawyers start my greencard application process late ‘07, giving me some leeway to get free from my restrictive L1. The preparing of documents etc took 6 months alone and my actual ‘priority date’ from the US Dept Of Labor (the day they received the app) was 17th July ‘08.

There are three stages to gettng a GC… the first stage, where i’m at, is called PERM, then after approval moves to the I-140 then onto the I485, which if approved is essentially the GC. It’s a seriously long and tedious process, even if everything goes to plan, unfortunately I hit a bump.

Today I was notified by the lawyers that my application was ‘randomly’ chosen for an audit, a process that will add at least another 12-20 months on top of my lengthly wait. It really blew me out today, very depressing and I really don’t think I can wait this out much longer. (FYI, my L1B allows me to only work for the company and I cannot move to another company. If I change jobs within the company, my GC app gets pulled, adjusted and moved to the back of the queue.)

So yeah, a pretty fucked day today. I need to tart seriously thinking of my future and where that’s going to be.

Getting shirty.

pbot | March 19, 2009 | 8:53 am

Today is the first day for what seems many, many months that I’ve been able to walk out of the house in the morning without a jumper (sweatshirt for the Americanos). Such a nice feeling, viva la spring!

Musical Payback

pbot | February 8, 2009 | 1:02 pm

My neighbors (right underneath me) decided to have a gay dance party at about 12:30am last night, not the most enjoyable experience when you are dealing with a headcold, migrane etc… especially when i’m trying to sleep right above their stereo.

So this morning I decided to give them some payback, all I can say is thank god for Aiden Baker & Tim Hecker’s Fantasma Parastasie, brutal and harsh over-processed noise drone and my super sturdy Alesis Monitor I’s delivered my retribution from above.

Enjoy the hangover peoples!

Cold remedies.

pbot | February 4, 2009 | 6:34 pm

Have been hit with a dreaded head cold over the last few days. Symptoms include dizyness and sore throat. Suprisingly no runny nose, blocked sinus or cough.

Any tips on remedies, apart from loads of drugs?

Brace face.

pbot | February 2, 2009 | 10:27 pm

It’s been about a year since I had my braces installed and it’s amazing to see how much progress has been made in aligning/moving/pushing/pulling that has taken place during this time. Going to be great to have nice straight teeth again… that is after my maxillofacial jaw surgery… more on that fun later.

So far it’s been relatively pain free, apart from the day/s after my monthly tightening, like today for example. I had a “chain” installed on my top teeth, it’s just a long strip of strong rubbery elastic which when stretched across all the teeth creates lots of pressure. Also, today is the first day that i’ve had to wear elastics and that too is causing lots of strain.. ack. Had to dive into the asprin a few times. Oh well, no pain no gain.

It’s also a great way to lose weight! ;)
